Succulents and cacti thrive on neglect
Succulents and cacti store water in their leaves and stems, so they can go days or weeks between drinks. Put them in a bright spot with well-drained soil and they're remarkably happy to be left alone.

Not everyone has time to fuss over houseplants — but you don't need to. Succulents, cacti and a few hardy leafy plants are forgiving, beautiful and basically care for themselves if you follow a couple of simple rules.

For these plants, overwatering is the number one killer. Let the soil dry out fully between waterings, then give it a thorough soak and let it dry again. Err on the dry side and they're very forgiving.
Plants like spider plants, pothos and sansevieria (snake plant) are among the toughest houseplants, coping with less light and irregular watering. They make the space feel lush without demanding constant attention.
Pay attention to light — sunny windowsills suit most succulents, while the tougher leafy plants handle shadier corners. A plant in the right spot needs far less fuss than one fighting for light.
