A greenhouse is a brilliant winter ally — but only if it's in good shape. A little winter care keeps warmth in, light coming through and plants growing, so your protected space is ready to go the moment spring arrives.

Look for broken panes, worn seals and gaps around vents and doors that let cold drafts in and warmth out. Repair and reseal what you can, and make sure doors and vents still close snugly to hold the heat.
Layered insulation like bubble polythene along the inside glazing adds valuable degrees of warmth. At the coldest times, protect vulnerable plants further with fleece or cloches inside the greenhouse.
Crowded, humid air breeds mould and grey rot, so crack vents open whenever the weather is mild and dry. Tidy, well-spaced plants, clean staging and careful watering keep the greenhouse a healthy base for everything through winter.
